For a long time, I tried to faithfully reproduce the music I had recorded, only to realise this was nearly impossible: the music was created improvising, and its essence lived in the spontaneity of the moment.
So I stopped trying to reproduce and committed instead to a more flowing way of making music, one that opens a door to a well of inspiration: every concert visited, every lesson learned from my mentors, every night on the road with other artists, all feeding into what comes out, whether or not someone's listening.
The result sits somewhere between piano music and soundscape: intimate and melodic at its core, textured with electronics, noise, and space.
I believe a concert isn't a monologue. The audience, the instruments, the character of the space… all become one. Unconsciously, whoever's in the room ends up in the music too.
I'm Leon den Engelsen. Born in Rotterdam, I grew up around music and have travelled the world with productions large and small. For over eight years I've toured with Sevdaliza, recording piano and keys on most of her albums. Alongside producing and recording for Dutch and Swedish artists, I keep exploring my own music from my home studio in Röstånga, in the south of Sweden.
